A Case of Fixed Drug Eruption by Piroxicam: Cross Antigenicity between Piroxicam and Meloxicam

Abstract

Piroxicam, a derivative of oxicam and COX-1 inhibitor, is a widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The common cutaneous reaction by piroxicam is photosensitivity rather than fixed drug eruption. We experienced fixed cutaneuos lesion with antibiotics and piroxicam three times and confirmed piroxicam-induced fixed drug eruption with oral challenge test. This patient also showed the positive reaction to meloxicam, a kind of COX-2 inhibitor, derived from oxicam, which present the cross antigenicity between piroxicam.
