Abstract
-
Klinefelter's syndrome is one of the most common forms of primary hypogonadism and infertility in males. Due to increasing interest in infertility, we are encountering these patients more often. Because the reports have small numbers of patients in Korea, we made t clinical observation of 87 patients to provide references for further investigation. The chromosomal study showed 47 XXY :78 patients(89.6%), 46 XY/47 XXY,6 patients(6.9%). The 46 XY/47 XXY patients(5 cases) had larger average testicular and penile sizes than 47 XXY group(35 cases). At the first consultation 42 patients( 48.3% ) complained of small testes, while 31(35.6%) complained of infertility. Among associated diseases, 2 patients(2.3%) had endocrine disorders and 6(6.9%) had psychological disorders. The average maternal age is higher than the national average and the mean value of marital intercourses is similar. The mean height and body weight are increased and the average size of the testis and penis at relaxation are significantly decreased. The development of the body hair is poor. The average level of plasma testosterone is lower and the FSH and LH are increased significantly.
