Abstract

Hypomagnesemia is a well-known side effect in patients receiving cisplatin-containing chemotherapy. Cisplatin induces hypomagnesemia by directly interfering with Mg resorption, although the magnesium resorption process remains to be fully charaterized. Here, we describe a case of symptomatic hypomagnesemia with an onset at 11 years after cisplatin withdrawal. We conclude that cisplatin nephropathy may persist throughout life and that many years may elapse before the development of clinical manifestations.
