Abstract
-
The purpose of this study is to survey the degree of adolescent internet addiction and its relation to family environment. The 563 high school students were divided into three groups-addiction, non-addiction, and intermediate group-according to internet addiction scale (IAS) score for comparing family environment scale (FES). The mean score of IAS was 56.70+/-11.79. The number of students whose IAS score higher than 40 points was 511 cases (91.8%) and higher than 70 points was 82 cases (14.6%). There were significant differences among three groups in cohesion, organization, and control of FES; the non-addiction group gained higher score on cohesion than addiction group; intermediate group had higher score on organization than addiction group and on control than non-addiction group. As internet utilization is becoming more and more common, internet addiction is increasing. The increased internet addiction tendency is related to family environment problems. In these regards, it is of great importance to study the degree of internet addiction in detail and to develop proper family intervention to help those who are in need.
