A Case of Primary Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma of the Uterine Cervix

Abstract

Signet ring cell adenocarcinoma of the cervix is most commonly considered to be metastatic in origin. We describe one case of primary signet ring cell adenocarcinoma of the cervix occurring in 33 - year - old patient. The lesions were located at the anterior lip of the cervix and about 3 cm in size. This case was negative for HPV type 18 and 16. Postoperative chemotherapy was done for FIGO stage IB adenocarcinoma with two of the pelvic nodes containing metastasis. The patient died 6 months after diagnosis. Although autopsy was not performed, absolute proof obtained of the absence of a gastrointestinal tract tumor, support this case for a primary cervical origin of signet ring cell form of adenosquamous cell carcinoma.
