Recurrent Pancreatitis Associated with Dysfunction of
the Sphincter of Oddi
Abstract
- Recently, dysfunction of the sphincter of Oddi is suggested as the
leading cause of recurrent idiopathic pancreatitis. We report a case of recurrent
pancreatitis associated with dysfunction of the sphincter of Oddi, which was
diagnosed by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and manometric
studies for the sphincter of Oddi. The patient was treated by endoscopic
pancreatic sphincterotomy (EPST), and showed favorable manometric responses.
At the two-month follow-up after EPST, the patient became asymptomatic and
the levels of serum pancreatic enzymes were within normal range.
