The Change of Thickness of the Lacrimal Gland by Orbital Computed Tomographies associated with Aging

Abstract

Decreased tear production may occur with aging and dry eye is a common ocular disorder in the aged population, especially for postmenopausal women. The thickness of the lacrimal gland was measured by the orbital computed tomography to identify morphologic changes of the lacrimal gland in relation to age and sex. The measurements of thickness of the lacrimal glands of 238 eyes by orbital computed tomography showed a statistically significant decrease in relation to age in females, but no significant change in males. The change of the lacrimal gland in relation to aged population, especially for postmenopausal women, showed a statistically significant. I suggest that the result of the study is cause of dry eye for postmenopausal women.
