Predictability of Postoperative Refractive Error after Secondary Lens Implantation

Abstract

In order to compare the refractive predictability of scleral fixation with sulcus fixation in secondary intraocular lens implantation, and to evaluate the effect of postoperative anterior chamber depth to postoperative refractive error, we analyzed retrospectively the records of 20 eyes in 20 patients who had secondary intraocular lens implantation from June 1996 to September 1998 at Ajou university hospital. In sulcus implantation, the preoperative expected refractive error was not consistent with postoperative refractive error, but in scleral fixation, there was close correlation.The postoperative refractive error had small hyperoptic shift in scleral fixation, and relatively larger myopic shift in sulcus implantation.Postoperative anterior chamber depth was deeper in scleral fixation than sulcus implantation. From above results, we suggest that we should consider the postoperative changes of anterior chamber depth and refractive error according to different operation methods and standardize the surgical technique, and have our own normogram.
