Abstract
- Iatrogenic pneumothorax occurs as a consequence of a diagnostic or therapeutic maneuver. When thoracic paravertebral block is performed, for the treatment of patients with chronic pain, iatrogenic pneumothorax is not common. However, once it has occurred, it gives suffering and pain to both the patient and physician. The patients are commonly referred to a thoracic surgeon, and treated with a tube thoracotomy on admission. As a consequence, there are less invasive and more economic methods for the managements of an iatrogenic pneumothorax. The patients can be simply treated with simple observation, oxygen inhalation and simple aspiration, without admission. Two cases of iatrogenic pneumothorax were experienced, following thoracic paravertebral block for the treatment of chronic pain, and treated successfully on an outpatient basis.
