Abstract

PURPOSE: To evaluate short- and long- term intraocular pressure (IOP) change after cataract surgery using mid-limbal incision and to assess whether there is a statistically significant post operative IOP change.
METHODS
We prospectively checked IOP of 94 patients who had mid limbal incision cataract surgery and excluded the patients with preexisting glaucoma or other proven ocular diseases and high elevation (30 mmHg) of IOP immediately after the surgery.
RESULTS
At 6 months after the surgery, the mean IOP of operated eye was significantly lower than that of non operated opposite eye, but the mean of normal eye was significantly elevated.
CONCLUSIONS
This IOP lowering effect of mid limbal incision cataract surgery suggests that control of IOP elevation related aging would be possible.
