Abstract

Coccydynia or coccygeal pain is a well-known, but rarely studied, painful syndrome that affects the coccyx region. Its etiology is not well understood, but includes pericoccygeal soft tissues, pelvic floor muscle spasms, referred pain from lumbar pathology, arachnoiditis of the lower sacral nerve roots, local traumatic lesions and somatization. Despite the advances in the treatment of other pain conditions, the therapeutic options for coccydynia remain unclear. This case demonstrates a favorable outcome when pulsed radiofrequency was used in a coccydynia patient.
