Abstract

It is well known that gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas are associated with Helicobacter pylori infection and have a good prognosis. However, although rare, these low-grade lymphomas transform to the high-grade diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCLs) which are thought to be the important cause of death in patients with MALT lymphoma. We report two cases of DLBCLs in the cervical lymph nodes that occurred 10 years and 1.5 years after diagnosing low-grade gastric MALT lymphomas.

Figure

  • Fig. 1 Endoscopic findings. (A) A 1-cm size subepithelial lesion with central erosion was seen on the lower body anterial wall. (B) Immediate postmucosectomy state. (C) Diffuse surface irregularity on the low body, great curvature side. A 1-cm size mucosal elevated lesion with central depression. (D) Multiple erosions on the lower body, great curvature.

  • Fig. 2 Histopathologic findings. (A) Mucosectomy specimen of gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma appears diffusely aggregated in the submucosal layer (H&E stain, ×10). (B) High-resolution image shows monomorphic atypical lymphocytes (H&E stain, ×100). (C) Cervical lymph node specimen shows diffusely aggregated large lymphocytes (H&E stain, ×40). (D) Cervical lymph node specimen shows diffuse aggregation of large lymphocytes which included sufficient chromatin (H&E stain, ×400).

  • Fig. 3 Neck computed tomography findings. (A-D) Bilateral enlarged cervical lymph nodes (arrows).
