Surgical Treatment of Spasmodic Torticollis

Abstract

The spasmodic toricollis is the term used to describe intermittent spasmodic movement of the neck. The torticollis my occur as a sequel of epidemic encephalitis, and it is thought due to psycologic disturbance and pathological changes in basal ganglia, neostriatum, vestibular apparatus and extrapyramidal system. In the therapeutic aspect, there is no adequate treatment, yet, with various methods, including medically, psycolically and surgically. We had a case good result with surgical method that is the bilateral anterior cervical rhizotomy and subarachnoid 11th nerve section.
