Abstract

During the follow-up period of 2.2 years in 14 myasthenic patients who had undergohe thymectomy, seven had remission. And four showed enough clinical improvement to reduce their anticholinesterase requirement. No significant change occurred in three patients. Remission of myasthenic symptoms occurred more frequently in patients with few or no germinal centers than those with numerous germinal centers. It is concluded that thymectomy favorably influences the course of the disease in the selected myasthenics, and germinal center may play a role in the prognosis of postoperative course
