Abstract

A thyroglossal cyst is a common midline mass, which is related to the hyoid bone, and it may show signs of inflammation. Carcinoma arising in the thyroglossal cyst is rare, accounting for less than 1% of all thyroglossal cysts. Papillary adenocarcinoma is the most common histologic type(75-85%), whereas anaplastic carcinoma arising in thyroglossal cyst is extremely rare and there has been only two reported cases of it. Its prognosis is not established due to its rarity. We experienced a case of anaplastic carcinoma that occured in a thyroglossal cyst in a 63-year-old man and report it.
