A Case of Polypoid Angiolipoma of the Proximal Ileum

Abstract
- Angiolipoma is a benign fatty neoplasm characterized by a vascular component that commonly occurs in the subcutaneous tissue and rarely in the gastrointestinal tract. The neoplasms of the small intestine are difficult to diagnose. There has been no report of angiolipoma of the ileum in Korea. Therefore, we report a case of symptomatic ileal angiolipoma. A 75-year-old man was admitted to our hospital due to intermittent periumbilical pain. Neither upper gastrointestinal endoscopy nor colonoscopy disclosed any abnormalities, but small bowel series showed a tumor-like shadow at the proximal portion of the ileum. The patient underwent a segmental resection of the ileum including the tumor. Grossly, the tumor was a polypoid submucosal mass measuring 30X25X20 mm with smooth margin and mild erosion. Histologic examination disclosed a benign angiolipoma of the proximal ileum.
