Abstract

Adenosquamous carcinoma in the extrahepatic bile duct is an extremely rare disease. We report here a case of adenosquamous carcinoma in a 64-year-old female who presented with jaundice and right upper quadrant abdominal pain. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a distal common bile duct malignancy with associated cholangitis. Percutanneous transhepatic biliary drainage was done for decompression of the bile duct. Then the patient subsequently underwent radical pancreaticoduodenectomy. The microscopic findings showed disorderly arranged glands composed of pleomorphic malignant cells with hyperchromatic and coarse chromatin nuclei, and definitive squamous differentiation.
