Abstract

Intracranial epidermoid cysts are rare, consisting of 0.2-1% of all intracranial tumors and are frequently called cholesteatoma or pearly tumor. The favorite sites are the C-P angle, parapituitary, diploe, cerebellum and rarely the cerebral hemisphere, lateral ventricle and intraspinal region. Epidermoid cysts of 3rd ventricle or pineal region are extremely rare and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. The authors have reviewed the literature and report the surgical removal of a case of epidermoid cyst which had developed in the pineal region extending to the posterior 3rd ventricle.
