Abstract

In 2025, the Korean Association of External Quality Assessment Service conducted a urinalysis program consisting of urine chemistry tests and urine sediment tests. A total of 1,953 institutions participated in the third trial in 2025. Urine chemistry tests, including pH, specific gravity, protein, glucose, ketone, bilirubin, blood, urobilinogen, nitrite, and leukocytes were performed three times, and urine sediment tests were performed twice. In the urine chemistry tests, all parameters except pH, ketone, and leukocytes had acceptable rates above 95%, while one image had an acceptable rate below 90% in the urine sediment test. The urinalysis external quality assessment program has contributed to improving the quality of urinalysis testing. However, caution is required when interpreting results, as matrix effects from quality control materials may cause analytical interference.
