Abstract

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a cognitive state between normal cognition and dementia. It is divided into four subtypes. The most important thing to categorize the subtypes is whether there is a significant memory impairment or not. MCI with memory impairment may develop dementia of Alzheimer's type, and patients with MCI but without memory impairment may develop vascular or other non-Alzheimer type dementia. Treatment should be specified for each subtype of MCI.
