Abstract

Purpose
To present a case of apocrine hidrocystoma occurring that occurred in the bulbar conjunctiva.
Case summary
A 36-year-old male patient presented with a mass in the left conjunctiva noted a week prior to his visit. During the initial physical examination, slit-lamp examination revealed a relatively well-demarcated pink mass in the lateral part of the left bulbar conjunctiva. Orbital computed tomography showed a well-defined, contrast-enhancing mass measuring 4 × 10 × 21 mm in the left lateral conjunctival area, suggestive of a conjunctival epidermoid cyst. An excisional biopsy of the cystic mass was performed. Histopathological examination confirmed that the lesion was an apocrine hidrocystoma.
Conclusions
Apocrine hidrocystoma occurring in the bulbar conjunctiva is extremely rare but should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a conjunctival cyst or mass.
