Abstract

Ampullary of Vater cancer is a rare malignancy that arises from the distal biliary epithelium of the ampulla of Vater. Because of the central location of the lesion, patients often present with obstructive symptoms in the disease process. A 55-year-old man had abdomen pain with jaundice. Abdomen ultrasound showed periampullary mass with upstream dilatation and pancreatic duct dilatation. Endoscopic ultrasonography showed definite mass with pancreatic head and distal common bile duct invasion. We performed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and the patient had surgery successfully. Although the patient had delayed gastric emptying, he recovered finally. The abdomen image including ultrasound is very exact and useful diagnostic modality for periampullary tumor.
