Abstract

With the rapid development of three dimensional (3D) printing technology over the last 20 years, there has been active research on its applications in the field of orthopaedic surgery. Moreover, in the last 10 years, this technology has rapidly found applications in fracture treatment and has spread to almost all anatomical fields where the body can be facilitated by 3D printing technology. Specifically, studies applying 3D printing in fracture treatments are being conducted actively. This is a global trend, and 3D printing technology is being applied to the medical field through collaboration with not only orthopaedic surgeons, but also scientists and experts in the field of fracture treatment. This review article provides an overview of how 3D printing technology is currently being adapted to orthopaedic surgery for the treatment of fractures and presents the future outlook of 3D printing technology in orthopaedics.
