Granular cell tumor of the vocal fold treated with a carbon dioxide laser

Abstract

A granular cell tumor is rare and can occur in any part of the body. In the head and neck area, the tongue is the most commonly affected, but the occurrence in the larynx is relatively rare. The most common symptom of a laryngeal granular cell tumor is hoarseness, but it is sometimes asymptomatic. Complete excision with the preservation of normal tissue is the treatment of choice, and a carbon dioxide laser is used for excision in case the larynx is involved. The author shares his experience of a 30-year-old male having a granular cell tumor involving the left vocal process and mimicking contact ulcer granuloma and reports the case with a literature review.
