Abstract

The advances in immunohematology for pre-transfusion testing helped improve patient care before 1950 and were subsequently developed to improve the sensitivity and laboratory management of testing method techniques. Since the 1990s, some countries have introduced computer crossmatching instead of serological crossmatching. Before the development of monoclonal antibodies, antisera derived from human plasma were used as reagents for blood typing, but monoclonal antibody reagents have been replaced since the 1980s. The recently introduced Blood Bank autoanalyzers have reduced the errors that can occur with manual techniques and increased work efficiency. The immunohematology technique of pre-transfusion testing currently being performed in laboratories is a reliable test. Therefore, the use of immunohematology techniques for pre-transfusion testing is expected to continue.
