Statistical Observations on far Advanced Intractable Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients

Abstract

Statistical observations on 307 intractable far advanced pulmonary tuberculosis cases were made to find the -causes of intractability. The results were as follows: 1. Initial x.ray findings were minimal 91 cases (30%) Moderate 55 cases (18%), Far Advanced 134 cases (43%) and unclassified 27 cases (9%): 2 . The probable course for intractability were, in the majority (196 cases: 63.8 %), ignorance or indifference of treatment followed by regular or single drug regimen and insufficient dosage (181 cases 59 %), delay in initial discovery (54 cases 50 %), poverty (143 cases 47 %), herb medicine (39 cases 13 %), misdiagnosis or incorrect guidance by physician or pharmacist cases (22 cases 7%), refusal of surgery (12 cases 4.5 %). 3. Past history of hemoptysis was present in 147 cases (48%), pleurisy 27 cases (8.8%), and history of contact with tuberculosis patients were present in 81 cases (26.3%). 4. Compared to the long duration of illness before admission to our hospital, the frequency of chest x-ray examinàtion of sputum test were very low until admission.
