Follow up Study of Pneumonectomy for Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Abstract

Patients of far advanced pulmonary tuberculosis needed pneumonectomy in this country have been increased year by year because of planned and continuous anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy failure. As patients are in conditions of ① diffuse destroyed lung, ② drug resistance and ③ decreased pulmonary function, in general complications following pneumonectomy are rather hígher and its mortality is in 10 % to and fro. We report follow up study of 113 cases of pneumonectomy for far advanced pulmonary tuberculosis during 3 years from March 1959 to Dec. 1962 at Dept. of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in National Medical Center.
