A Study on Characteristics of the Discharged among Tuberculosis Patients Registered at the Health Centers

Abstract

An investigation was made to characterize the tuberculosis patients discharged from the health centers in Chun Chon City and Chun Sung Gun. For this purpose, 1,042 patients were randomly selected out of 3,907 patients discharged from the health centers during 1969 through 1973. Among these, 340 (34. 5%) were interviewed by health workers and nursing students from July to September 1975. From the patient registration cards, it was found out that 69.5% of the patients were discharged prematurely before completing treatment and only 30.5% of the patients were discharged after having completed treatment. Breakdown of the reasons for premature discharge was moving of residence (3.2%) death (5.9%), treatment at other clinics (4.4 %), refused of treatment (2.5%), and unidentified reasons (43.5 %). The reasons of premature discharge among interviewed patients were busy work, unkind attitude of the health workers, and idleness of patients.
