The Allergen Shin Test and the Effect of Specific Desensitization in Bronchial Asthma

Abstract

The allergen skin test was a useful procedure to evaluate aIIergic diseases. Recent evidence suggests that cIinical symptoms and signs of bronchial asthma were improved by specific desensitization. We observed the reactivity to various aIIergens and evaluated the effect of specific desensitization. The material was consisted of 97 atopic asthmatic patients. The results were as foIIows: 1. The frequency of positive skin test for various aIIergens in bronchial asthma was in order of house dust 58.8%. dermophagoides pteronyssinus 20.6%, straw dust 18.6%, cat fur 17.5%. hay dust 13.4% and goldenrod 11. 3%. etc. 2. The frequency of sinusitis in asthmatic patients was 76.2%. 3. The duration of bronchial asthma history was 5.3 ± 4.3years and the time of asthmatic attack in a day was predominantly at 4 to 6 0'clock in the morning. The asthmatic attack occured most commonly in winter. 4. The effect of specific desensitization was good in 28%, fair in 48%, no response in 24 %.
