Clinical Observation on 120 Cases of Bronchial Asthma

Abstract

We performed cIinical observation on 120 cases of bronchial asthma, admitted to Chung-Ang University Sung Sim Hospital from April, 1974 to March, 1980. The result were as follows: 1. Seventy-three cases of 120 asthma patients were male and 47 cases were female. Male to female ratio was 1.6 : 1 and peak age in incidence of asthma was first decade (21.7%). 2. The peak age in the onset of asthma was first decade (26.7%) and male to female ratio was 7 : 1 in this group. 3. Monthly distribution of asthma attack revealed the peak occurence in September. In seasonal distribution, Summer and Autumn were more frequent than Spring and Winter. 4. Sixty-five cases (54.2%) had other allergic disorders and among them urticaria was most common. 5. Fifty-four cases (45.0%) had family allergic history. 6. In duration from attack of symptoms to admission, 58 cases (48.3%) of 120 asthma cases were admitted within 3 days. 7. In therapeutic response to bronchodilators, 110 cases (91.7%) had resulted in good response and 39 cases among them improved within 3 days. 8. There were no response to bronchodilator in 10 cases (8.3%).
