A Case of Bronchial Lipoma

Abstract

Bronchiallipoma is a slowly growing benign neoplasm of the large bronchi which is characterized by proliferation of mature adipose tissue admixed with bronchial mucus glands and fibrous tissue. It is very rare, whereas lipoma of other sites are not uncommon. As of 1980, 51 cases of bronchial lipomas have been reported in English literature since first case was reported on 1854. They are frequent1y found on routine chest roentgenologic examination incidentally and chest X-ray usually shows secondary changes due to endobronchial obstruction. Bronchoscopic examination may yield the diagnosis of bronchial lipoma but, in general, open thoracotomy is required for diagnosis and treatment We report one case of bronchiallipoma in 54-year-old female patient which was diagnosed with bronchoscopic examination and successfully treated with left upper lobectomy.
