Elevated Serum CA-125 Level in Tuberculous Peritonitis -3 Cases of Report-

Abstract

CA-125 is a high molecular weighted glycoprotein cellular antigen which is expressed on the surfaces of some derivatives of embryonal coelomic epithelial cells. CA-125 is known to be elevated in the serum of patients of gynecologic malignancy including primary and metastatic ovarian carcinoma and endometrial carcinoma. It is currently used as a sensitive tumor marker of gynecologic malignancy. But there have been reports suggesting the CA-125 level in serum was elevated in benign gynecologic diseases and non-gynecologic diseases including acute pneumonia and hepatic cirrhosis. We have experienced 3 cases of patients with high serum CA-125 values in whom the diagnosis of tuberculous peritonitis were made by laparotomy (1 case) and peritoneoscopic biopsies (2 cases). We report these cases with brief review of the literatures.
