Common Mental Disorders in Primary Care

Abstract

Mental disorders are common in primary care practice. Half of the population experience at least one mental disorder in their lifetime and at least 25% have suffered a mental disorder in a year. Major depression, anxiety disorder, personality disorder, panic disorder is common mental disorder among the somatic symptoms patients without organic disease. The understanding of current changes in diagnostic criteria of mental disorders (DSM-5) is important in the management and referral in primary care.
