Abstract
- Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is based on the concept of sutureless approximation of the stomach to the abdominal wall. Since its inception 33 years ago, this procedure fulfilled the initial intent that it should be simple, acceptably safe and effective. PEG has changed the way we look at enteral nutrition and has played an integral role in the evolution of contemporary long-term enteral access. In this review, the history of PEG, detailed procedure, peri-PEG management and the change of tube are introduced.
