Abstract
- Sleep in space may be affected by many factors. These include mission characteristics, confinement, microgravity, vibration, noise, work load, light, space motion sickness, excitement, stress, shift work and disruption in circadian rhythm, etc. The space environment is inhospitable to humans, the lack of sleep can result in fatigue, distraction, and performance decrement. The countermeasures are so far nap, medicine, sleeping bag, the adjustment of time for exercise, light, and so on, but the effects of these are questionable. We should develop more specific countermeasures for long duration mission like Mars exploration.
