Abstract

The pelvic bone fractures have studied by many authors. We have experienced difficulties in managing the pelvic bone fractures because most of them were associated with other bone fractures of soft tissue injuries. 1. 44 patients out of 102 were in age group between 20 to 39. Male and female ratio was 1.1:1. 2. The cause of the pelvic bone fractures were mostly due to automobile accident (82.4%), fall from a height (10.8%), direct blow (5.9%) and miscellaneous (1%). 3. The pelvic bone fractures were classified into avulsion fractures (2 cases), stable fractures (65 cases), and Unstable fractures (35 cases) by the mode of force. 4. About 90% of the pelvic bone fractures were complicated by other bone fractures (52.9%) and soft tissue injuries (50.0%). 5. The residual complications at the end of treatment remained in some cases: urethral stricture, impotence, low back pain, arthritis of sacroiliac joint, narrowing of the birth canal, paralysis of the sciatic nerve, phlebothrombosis, fistula and malunion etc. 6. The main causes of death were the associated injuries including intracranial hemorrhage 7 case) and hypovolemic shock (2 cases).
