A Clinical Observation on 30 Cases of Ankle Fractures

Abstract

This paper represents a clinical review on thirty cases of ankle fractures treated at the Orthopedic Department, Seoul Red Cross Hospital during the period of Aug. 1968 to June 1971. 1. Thirteen cases were medial malleolar fractures and eleven cases were bimalleolar fractures. 2. Early weight bearing with short leg cast was selectively possible in 4 cases of displaced medial malleolar fracture with open reduction and internal tixation using a long screw. 3. In most displaced bimalleolar fractures, open reduction and a screw fixation of medial malleolus alone yielded satisfactory results. 4. In 3 cases of open bimalleolar fractures and a explosion type of fracture resulted in a grave prognosis.
