A Clinical Study on Fracture of Femoral neck in Children
Abstract
- Although fractures of the femoral neck in children are rare, their complication rate is high and their anatomic and physiologic characteristics make treatment difficult. The commonly encountered complications following treatments are avascular necrosis, nonunion, coxa vara and premature closure of epiphyseal plates. Until now treatment of these fractures remains as an unsolved problem. We teated and analysed 20 cases of femoral neck fractures in children. The results obtained are as follows : 1. Among 20 cases of femur neck fracture, 9 were boys and 11 were girls. The main cause of fracture was traffic accident in 16 cases(80%). 2. 9 type II, 7 type III and 4 type IV femoral fractures by Delbet's classification. 3. 6 cases of non-displaced fracture were treated by conservative treatment and 14 displaced fracture were treated by closed reduction and percutaneous fixation. 4. Complications were developed in 6 cases. 5. According to ratliff's assessment of Results, 18 cases were good, one fair & one poor. 6. We did bone scanning for early detection of avascular necrosis and early diagnosis of epiphyseal closure is somewhat difficult to obtain by simple X-ray.
