Abstract

We report a case that showed partial seizures with periodic lateralized epileptiform discharges(PLEDs) in EEG after alcohol withdrawal. A 61 year-old chronic alcoholic male presented partial seizures after alcohol withdrawal, who had no history of previous seizure. The initial EEG revealed PLEDS, which disappeared in the follow up studies, and brain MRI showed multi-focal irregular low-signal intensity lesions with surrounding cerebromalacia in the bilateral basal frontal areas in Tl- and T2-weighted images. PLEDs with seizures after alcohol withdrawal in patient with preexisting focal cerebral lesions are discussed with the review of the literatures.
