Comparison of degree of exophathalmus measured by CT and exophthalmometry in normal Korean adults

Abstract

CT has been known to be as useful tool as exophthalomometry in measuring the degree of proptosis. Authorsmeasured the degree of proptosis in 38 eyes of 19 normal Korean adult volunteers with CT and Keelerexophthalomometry, and calculated mean values and clarified their linear correlationship. The vertical distancefrom interzygomatic line to cornea on CT was between 14 and 16.8mm with their mean values of 15.6±0.69 and thevalues of protosis measured by exophthalmometry was from 14mm to 17mm with their mean values of 15.5±0.92.Correlation test between these two methods showed positive correlationship (p=0.05) and their coefficient valuewas 0.41. Therefore, it is proved that CT has no statistical difference on measuring the degree of proptosis ascompared with exophthalmometry.
