The double contrast study of small intestine

Abstract

An intestinal tube of one balloon and double lumen is deviced which is 120cm long and 16F, in width and 8patiens were examined with double contrast small bowel series with the following results; 1. There are 7 males andone female patients. and their age range is from 3 to 61 years old. 2. An amout of 240-300cc. of 50w/v% Barium is intaken per os and intubation is done per nose. An intubation time is 5 minutes of less in 7 patients and 10 minutes in one patient. and side effects of intubation and air insufflation into small bowel via this tube are inthe order of abdominal distension nausea and nasal pain etc. 3. The maxinal internal diamter of hypotonic small bowel is measured as following; 1) jejunum; ; 36 mm. 2) mid small bowel ; 39mm. 3) ileum; ; 36mm. 4. The barium intaken was transited caudally with air insufflation, and air insufflation would be begun when caudal barium column reaches distal ileum. for better delineation of double contrast small bowel. 5. An ileoceal valve regions were delineated best in the study and mid small bowell bowel, jejunum, and ileum in the order of list. And jejunumis delineated nicely with spot supine AP. LAO and erect views, midsmall bowel in spot supine RAO, AP and erect AP views and routine abdomen in RAO, AP and LAO views, and ileum in spot supine RAO, AP and routine abdomen AP views.
