A case report of urinary ascites due to posterior urethral constriction in an infant

Abstract

The constriction of the posteror urethra resulting to urinary ascits in male is a very rare condition. Theetiology of the urethral constriction is devided into two conditions, congenital and aquired. The latter conditionis resulted from hte recurent urinary infections occuring frequently in female. A two year old boy has been havingcomplaints of abominal distension, symptoms of recurrent urinary infection and voiding difficulty for the last oneyear. The radiograph of simple abdomen showed marked abdominal distension and tremendous enlargement of the kidneyshadow on either side. The excretory urogram revealed an evidence of hydronephrosis, hydroureter on the bothsides, vesicouretral reflux and an obstruction of the vesical neck. At suregery an annular constriction of theposterior urethra at the vesical neck was confirmed.
