Radiological evaluation of Bochdalek hernia

Abstract

This observation reveals the radiological analysis and clinical findings of 7 proved cases of Bochdalek Herniaof two neonatals and 5 infants who are operated in Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital. The roentgenogram isbestumethod for diagnosis of Bochdalek hernia, although clinical findings are very useful. As clinical symptoms,the dyspnea, vomiting, cyanosis and drowsiness are common. On roentgenographic findings, 6 of 7 cases show leftside hernia of diaphragm and one shows right diaphragmatic hernia. As characteristic radiographic findings, all ofcases represented displacement of mediastinal structure to opposite side, obscuration of hemidiaphragm andparadoxical finding of pleural effusion. The classical signs of intrathoracic intestinal gas is presented in 6cases. The symptom and signs are initiated from 2 days to 2 years of age.
