The Relationship Between Socioeconomic Factors and Lifestyle in Endemic Area

Abstract

Background: Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health. Good health is a major resource for social, economic and personal development and an important dimension of quality of life. So, the author try to study the relationship between socioeconomic factors and lifestyle in endemic area.
Methods
A questionnaire method was used to collect data from September 10 to 30, 1997. The 1,333 subjects consisted of 690 men and 643 women. After adjusting sex, age, educational grade, income, the author performed the comparison according to each parameter such as smoking, alcohol drinking, exercise.
Results
Men used more tobacco and alcohol than women. The lower social class expressed higher rates of smoking, alcohol drinking and lower rate of exercise.
Conclusion
The most helpful method to prevent non-infectious diseases is behavioral changes to avoid unhealthy factors. So more comprehensive systematized assessment of health promotion strategies and programmes including lower socioeconomic class should be needed.
