Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Turbulent Flow in a Model Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Abstract
- An experimental investigation was carried out to study the characteristics of turbulent flow in a model abdominal aortic aneurysm. Hot-wire techniques were used to measure the two components of mean velocity and the three components of the Reynolds stresses along a horizontal plane in streamwise locations extending from 2 diameters upstream to 1 diameter downstream of a model abdominal aortic aneurysm. Results show that a small vortex is established in an abdominal aortic aneurysm bulge and a severe variation of the Reynolds stresses was identified.
