Abstract

This review's objective is to give a critical summary of studies that focused on physiologic measures relating to subjectively rated weight loss. Biomarkers of weight loss may be used as a tool for assessing the efficiency of functional foods for weight reduction and for understanding the regulation of food intake and energy balance. We made a distinction between biomarkers of weight reduction or dangerous effect related to functional food. Various studies showed that physiological measures related to weight loss and blood concentrations of biomarkers associated with weight loss. Several currently available biomarkers for weight reduction are decreases in weight, body fat composition, waist in weight loss effects, which have been shown to be involved in biochemical changes during participation; lipid profiles, liver function, kidney function, which have been implicated in both weight reduction and related health effects. The next challenge in this research area is to identify efficiency and rational standard of functional food for weight reduction that have an effect on biomarkers of weight reduction, injurious effect. These criterions may help consumers and development to maintain exploration their new ingredients at a level consistent with a healthy body weight.
