A Comparative Study according to the Change of Evaluation Method from Norm-referenced Evaluation to Criterion-referenced Evaluation.

Abstract

This study was carried out to provide the basic data for the choice of evaluation method in the evaluation of academic record in medical college. For this, one university academic records were analyzed in which the method of evaluation was changed from the norm-referenced evaluation to the criterion-referenced evaluation since the first trimester in 1989 and the results of two methods were compared with. The results were as follows ; in the major of medicine, there is no difference in the academic record of the most subjects according to the evaluation methods, but in a few subjects, the record was underestimated in the criterion-referenced evaluation. In the major of nursing, all subjects of both major and essential subjects were overestimated strikingly in the criterion-referenced evaluation. In the other majors, the subjects for general education were also overestimated markedly in the criterion-referenced evaluation and the proportion to the grade of record were very different by the professors.
