Effect of Drinking Prevention Program on Drinking Related Knowledge, Attitude, Drinking Refusal Self-Efficacy and Behavior of High School Girls

Abstract

PURPOSE: This study was done to determine the effect of drinking prevention program on the levels of drinking related knowledge, attitude, drinking refusal self-efficacy and behavior in high school girls. METHOD: This was nonequivalent control group pre-post test design. The subjects were 133 high school girls who were conveniently assigned to experimental and control group. The data were collected from May to September, 2005 and analyzed using Chi-square test, t-test and ANCOVA.
RESULTS
1. The 1st hypothesis, "The drinking-related knowledge score of experimental group will be significantly higher than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=256.30, p= .001). 2. The 2nd hypothesis, "The drinking-related attitude score of experimental group will be significantly higher than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=43.35, p= .001). The 3rd hypothesis, "The drinking refusal self-efficacy of experimental group will be significantly higher than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=43.86, p= .001). 4. The 4th hypothesis, "The number of drinking of experimental group will be significantly lower than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=6.12, p= .015). 5. The 5th hypothesis, "The drinking amount of experimental group will be significantly lower than that of control group in posttest" was supported (F=8.52, p= .004). 5.
CONCLUSION
This drinking prevention program was effective in increasing the drinking-related knowledge and attitude, and the drinking refusal self-efficacy, and in reducing the drinking behavior of high school girls.
