Clinical Review on Recurrent Urolithiasis (II)

Abstract

A statistical observation was made on 21 cases of recurrent urolithiasis among the 528 cases of urinary stone which were seen during the 7 years period from May, 1972 to April, 1979 in the Department of Urology of Hanyang University Hospital. The results were as follows: 1) During this period, the total number of in-patients were 1,557 among which patients with urinary stone diseases were 528 (33.9%) 2) The incidence of the patients with urolithiasis increased according to increasing annual incidence of in-patients. 3) The recurrence was found in 18.96%, and the ratio of males to female was 3.2 to 1. 4) They were most commonly found between the ages of 20 to 49 (90.5%) 5) The mean period from primary occurrence to recurrence was 3.7 years. 6) The causes were not found in l6 cases. Other were prolonged recumbency (3 cases), duplicated ureter (l case) & hyperparathyroidism (1 case). 7) Treatment consisted of surgical intervention in 38.1%, spontaneous passing in 33.3%, and still remaining in 28.6%.
