Abstract
-
Lipomas are one of the most common benign neoplasm in the subcutaneous tissues, but tonsil of lipoma is extremely rare. To our knowledge, there are about fifteen previously reported cases of tonsillar lipoma in the world literature review. The pathogenesis of lipoma represents a benign neoplastic growth or a harmatomatous malformation. Lipomas of tonsil may be asymptomatic or it can manifest as a foreign body sensation in the throat, such as in coughing, soreness or even respiratory obstruction. The treatment of choice is excision of the mass with its stalk or unilateral tonsillectomy with excision of the mass. We report a case of lipoma of the tonsil with a review of the related literature.
